COLDBROOK, N.S. —
A duplex in Coldbrook is damaged beyond repair following an early morning fire Sunday that broke out when no one was home.
Firefighters were dispatched to the split-level house on Princess Crescent in Hayes Subdivision shortly before 4:20 a.m.
“When I arrived on scene the house was fully involved, flames coming through the roof,” said Randy Hill, a deputy chief with the Kentville Fire Department.
Firefighters from Kentville, Waterville, New Minas and Port Williams teamed up to get the raging fire under control in short order.

“Crews had it under control in probably about 20 minutes," Hill said. "We were here a good four hours before we were able to clear.”
“Our guys did a really good stop on it. The fire was on the second floor, so they managed to make entry and extinguish the fire really quickly."
The cause and origin of the fire was undetermined at of 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The provincial Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted.
“It would be a total loss,” Hill said.
The Canadian Red Cross has reached out to four occupants displaced as a result of the damage done.
“Canadian Red Cross volunteers are assisting two women and the son and nephew of one of them with emergency lodging and purchases like clothing, food and some other essentials,” Dan Bedell, spokesman for the Atlantic division of the Canadian Red Cross, said in a news release.
“There were no injuries.”
The Red Cross is recruiting throughout Nova Scotia.
“The Canadian Red Cross is currently looking for more volunteers to join its teams serving the Annapolis Valley and other communities throughout the province to help people impacted by events like residential fires but also larger disasters and emergencies,” said Bedell.
